If you read my post, Detox and the Details of The Boston Cleanse you know by now how the cleanse works and what comes with it! You simply replace 2 meals a day with a cleanse smoothie (adding the cleanse powder & protein) and take the provided supplements. Other than that you are avoiding certain foods and eating clean whole foods.
Smoothie times: With a busy week this week, I decided to make my breakfast and lunch my two smoothie meals (traditionally breakfast and dinner). I brought my lunch smoothie with me in my mason jars!
Keep in mind: I wake up very early which helped in having time to experiment and prepare my smoothies. If you’re not typically an early riser, you may want to schedule waking up a bit earlier for the week! I loved experimenting with different ingredients, and definitely had some fails along the road…
The eating portion: I am a clean eater in general (I don’t eat gluten, dairy, soy, or refined sugar) so in terms of the eating, I had that basically covered- although I didn’t make ANY paleo treats this week, or eat any Quest Bars!! Meals included wild fish, veggie dishes, spaghetti squash dishes, salads, chicken, lettuce wraps, and grass-fed beef. Note: I generally eat more than 3 meals a day, so I subbed my two smoothies for breakfast & lunch, had my dinner, and then made sure I had enough snacks with me.
What did I miss? COFFEE!!!!!!
What I tried to do more of? Drink more water.
Results? I feel good. I enjoyed incorporating the smoothies into my daily routine, and being even more strict with my eating (7 days is definitely do-able; now, a little dark chocolate please)! My body feels nourished and definitely energized, even without my coffee- can you tell I am an avid-coffee drinker?
Going into the cleanse my goal was not to lose weight, it was to detox and cleanse my body of toxins and feel good. I definitely made sure to eat my prepared snacks as I wasn’t trying lose, and my eating was already cleaned up. If you aren’t a fully ‘clean’ eater (and you are cutting out all the things it says to), your results will be amazing and way more than mine! What to do if you’re traveling? No excuses! I went away for the weekend on the last two days of my cleanse. With me I brought my protein and cleanse powders, a tiny cooler with frozen berries/frozen bananas, a personal travel blender (not a Vitamix but does the trick and is cheap in price), and single-serve unsweetened vanilla almond milk containers (best new find)!
My local Whole Foods Market had a sale today… and I love a good sale! $1.99 for Organic Strawberries. That is a serious steal. I decided to stock up and make a batch of my Chunky Strawberry Chia Seed Jam. What does this go perfectly with? Oh well… just about everything! On top of your morning oatmeal, spread on some toast, or mixed with almond butter to make a nut butter and jelly dip (oh yeah, that’s happening)… endless possibilities!
Ingredients: (should make 2 containers worth)
5 cups organic strawberries, rinsed, hulled, and cut
1/4 cup raw organic honey (or sweetener of choice)
1 tbsp lemon juice
2 tbsp chia seeds
Rinse strawberries well and cut into pieces
In a bowl, pour honey over strawberries
Mix together and let sit for 20 minutes
Transfer mixture to a pot
Add lemon juice, and lightly smash strawberries with a potato masher
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer
Once simmering for 5 minutes, add chia seeds
Let simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring often to avoid sticking
Once thick, remove from heat, let cool and store in air-tight containers for up to one week.

1 heaping tbsp raw almond butter
1 heaping tbsp homemade jam
Fruit of choice (I like it with an organic gala apple or a banana)
Satisfaction without turning the oven on? Yes, PLEASE. Summer in the city means me loving a no-bake dessert option! Chocolate cups are perfect for a few reasons. Number 1… They are SO beyond easy. Number 2… You can customize and fill them with countless things. And number 3… They look GREAT! You’ll definitely impress your guests with this simple guilt-free treat.
8 oz. organic dark chocolate (over 85% or Enjoy Life’s Chocolate Chips)
5-10 ice cubes (I used 5 here and loved the consistency)
1 tsp raw organic honey
1/2 cup fresh berries
Optional: Add additional sweetener to taste
Optional: Garnish with fresh berries and festive sprinkles
Note: Xanthan gum is used as a thickening agent. It is made from a tiny microorganism called Xanthomonas campestris and is a natural carbohydrate. If you are unsure whether it will be good for you, you can substitute it for other thickening agents such as a frozen banana or other frozen fruits. If you eat dairy, adding cottage cheese or greek yogurt will also thicken up your shakes!
Line the bottom of your glass or jar with blueberries
In a high-speed blender, combine almond milk, protein powder, coconut oil, xanthan gum, honey, and ice and blend until smooth
Taste and adjust thickness and sweetness to your liking
Pour over berries, garnish, and enjoy with a straw or a spoon
